ALL ABOUT THAT BASS ANALYSIS

All About That Bass is a repetitive, infectious jingle from Meghan Trainor, released in June of last year.

The video has block pastel colours as a key to its overall aesthetic. The only background other than the baby pink is an array of pastel coloured fabrics strewed across the ground which Meghan Trainor is laying on top of.
Message of the Video: Women are presented as childlike and silly. Trainor is a grown woman but in the video, her 'bedroom' was like a little girls room, equipped with pink walls and dolls house.
The other women in the video are shown in a cutaway riding childrens bikes with tassels on the handlebars. Everything in the video is pastel coloured. These colours are soft and weak reflecting how the women within the video are meant to be presented: soft and weak.
The video (and the song) perpetuates womens stereotypical gender roles. The song is seen to be inspiring as it encourages girls to love themselves however the song states "boys like a little more booty to hold at night", implying that girls should strive to be pleasing physically for boys and that their worth is defined by their attractiveness.

Trainor is shown at a Barbie-like dinner scene with a man.
Theres a recurring cutaway in the video of three women with matching wigs and makeup styles which I really liked, hopefully I can incorperate something similar into my own project.
There isnt a plotline to the video its more of a party, showing the people within dancing and having fun.
I really like the block colours as a background. If I were to take inspiration from this, I would use multiple colours rather than just the pink to make the shots more varied and the video more interesting.
