NEW CAMERA
So one of the main things that was clear following our trip to the BFI was that in the exemplar music videos, the camera quality was incredibly high. After voices our concern that compartively, our handycams might not live up to that standard, we were given new cameras, Canon XF100's.
Although I'd done a little bit of filming already, it was a no brainer to reshoot. The quality of this camera is UNREAL. The distance of the focus is incredible and the light settings are really useful. Overall its a much more professional camera and I'm excited to film more.

SURVEY
I sent around a survey to my friends not too long ago asking questions about their music video consumption habits and preferences. Here are the results :)
https://www.surveymonkey.com/results/SM-RXTLJ8TC/
66.7% were 16-20
33.3% were 21-25
66.7% used youtube to watch music videos
22.2% used Music TV
11.1% said they dont watch music videos.
In terms of frequency of watching videos, 1 respondent watching MV's at least once a day, 3 watch them multiple times a week, 3 watch them at least once a week and 2 watch them less than once a week.
All but one respondents have become a fan of an artist after seeing one of their music videos.
Question 5 was 'What is your favourite music genre'. It garnered some varied results.
-RnB
-Metal
-Soul
-Dance/ Electronic
-Alternative/ indie
-80's funk
-Dance
-Pop
Question 6 asked what some common features of alternative pop were.
-Lots of colours
-Surrealism
-Black and white
-Flowers
-Slow motion
-Dark set
-Distinctive costumes
-Artist being in the video
Question 7 asked which of a select number of features, was the most successful in music videos. The top rated feature was narrative, a story you can follow. There will be a narrative in my video so I'm glad the results have turned out this way.
The second highest rated feature was creative editing i.e. use of black and white, slow motion etc. I plan on using slow motion in my video so this is promising. The third highest rated feature was joint between having the artist in the video, and intertextuality, both at 44%. I will be doing both of these things in my video so that's again, very promising. I'm also using a different time era as a feature which came in fourth as a rated choice.

LIGHTING WORKSHOP
We did a lighting workshop to demonstrate the effects of different kinds of lighting.
When shooting this 'scary story' scene, we used a blue light from one side so that only one side of Lucy's face was visible. This had a really cool effect and looked really menacing.
Its important to have proper lighting when using a green screen because otherwise there will be shadows on the screen and this will have an impact on the footage when you come to edit it.

We also experimented with shooting with back light. This had a really cool effect as the subject was completely blacked out and only the outline was really visible. Very cool.
DESCISIONS
The song I have chosen to use for my music video is 'Nightmare' by Miley Cyrus. Unfortunately because its an unreleased song, there's no official video or lyrics video to link to. Most of the versions of the song on Youtube have been slowed down.
I added the song to a blank movie in iMovie.

MUSIC VIDEO FOR TV+ office comp
I'm going to shoot in the Hamptons twice on the same day, with an interval in the middle. I want to film there during the daytime using the light to symbolise the happiness and safety felt by the protagonist. I then want to shoot when its a bit darker to represent the danger and fear in the nightmare.
I'm filming the funeral scene first so the flowers are still presentable.
I've divided my filming into two days, one where I need both Megan and Holly and one where I just need Megan. This is helpful because the filming is condensed so if I need to re-shoot something or film more, I'll know pretty early on.
