AS REVIEW

Looking back on my AS video, there were a lot of things that didn't run that smoothly.

1. We got kicked out of the carpark we were filming in multiple times. To avoid this happening again, I wont be filming anywhere that is monitored. I'll be using streets and forrests and underpasses all in public.

2. We didn't really plan it that well. The footage we used for the flashabck had been filmed weeks before as a test for the kind of thing we wanted to do and then we forgot about it. To avoid the frantic 'FIND SHOTS TO FILL THE GAPS' shpiel again, I'm planning every single shot. EVERY SHOT.

3. We filmed and starred in it. Me and Vicky didn't want to bring other people in because we thought we could get more done if there were less exterior elements to go wrong which in a sense was true. However, it meant that the camera angles we could use were limited because unless the shots were handheld/ POV shots, the camera was static. This year I'm probably not going to be in the video at all. I'm using other people and spending my time behind the camera.

4. Our opening sequence had dodgy sound levels. The video predominantly used the song we had made on garageband which featured vox pop style soundbites. When we did use audio from the footage, it sounded really odd. It was noticeably out of place. This year, I wont be using any dialogue I will just stick to the song. The audio from last year still really bothers me.

5. The lighting is kind of boring. We used natural light for almost the entirety of our opening sequence which made for a pretty samey final product in terms of lighting. We did use some after effects but I think they made the video look unprofessional in places. The start of the opening sequence had a quite nice faded quality added to it afterwards. The flashbacks however are just bad.

6. Our 'patients' had sensitive skin. So we used our friends Tom and Dan to play, patients, zombie like creatures. When it came time to shoot, both of them pretty much straight out refused to put makeup on their faces. I don't know if it was solely sensitive skin or maybe a bit of an ego issue but they weren't having it. Because there werent many opportunities to get the four of us together, we decided to shoot them without any makeup which again made it look kind of unprofessional. It wasnt clear there was anything specifically wrong with them and made the video a bit confusing.
The people I'm using this year are ready to rock. I've already asked them if they're OK with being covered in fake blood and paint just to be sure.

WHAT WENT WELL.

1. Its still an entertaining little opening sequence. The shots are quite quick and to the point. I think the editing was our strongpoint to be honest, the footage we had was literally just us running around a carpark but we managed to make it into something captivating.

2. There's quite a wide range of angles in terms of shots. This was probably just a happy accident because there were only two of us but the varying heights, shots through stairs, shots of shadows, they're all good.

3. Slow motion is our friend. I love the mix of slow motion and normal paced footage I think it makes the video so interesting. I'm definitely gong to be using slow motion this year too.
